USDCAD Pip Calculator (Loonie)
Calculate USDCAD pip value, points, lot size, margin and profit for any account currency.
USDCAD prices the US dollar in Canadian dollars, nicknamed the loonie after the bird on the one-dollar coin. Canada is a major oil exporter, so crude prices often influence the pair, along with Bank of Canada and Federal Reserve decisions and the close trade ties between the two economies. Canadian and US jobs reports are frequently released at the same time, which can produce sharp moves. The pair is busiest in the New York session, especially the morning when North American data is published. The Canadian dollar is the quote currency, so one pip (0.0001) on 1 standard lot is CAD 10, and its US-dollar value is CAD 10 divided by the USDCAD rate, typically a little under $10.

Calculation notes
- USD pip value per lot = 10 ÷ USDCAD; above 1.00 the pip is worth less than $10.
- Margin in a USD account needs no price: 1 lot = $100,000 ÷ leverage.
- For a CAD account a pip is simply CAD 10 per lot, no conversion needed.
FAQ
How much is 1 pip on USDCAD with 1 lot?
Pip value = 100,000 × 0.0001 = CAD 10. At a USDCAD rate of 1.36 that is 10 ÷ 1.36 = $7.35 per pip per standard lot and $0.74 per mini lot.
How many lots should I trade on USDCAD risking $100 with a 25-pip stop?
Lots = $100 ÷ (25 × $7.35) = 0.544, so about 0.54 lots at USDCAD 1.36. A higher USDCAD rate lowers the pip value and allows a slightly larger size.
Does the oil price change the USDCAD pip value?
Not directly. Oil can move the exchange rate, and the exchange rate sets the USD pip value (10 ÷ USDCAD), but the pip size and contract size stay the same.
