Instrument Calculators

Every page has a calculator preset to the instrument, its contract specification, and pip value, risk and margin tables.

How to pick an instrument page

Open the page for the exact symbol you trade on your platform. The same lot size moves very different amounts of money depending on the instrument, because each one has its own contract size, pip size and quote currency. An instrument page fixes those values for you, so the pip value, lot size, margin, profit and points calculators only ask for your account details and trade.

Forex pairs use a standard lot of 100,000 units of the base currency. A pip is 0.0001, or 0.01 for JPY pairs, so 1 lot of a USD-quoted pair such as EURUSD is worth $10 per pip. On pairs where USD is not the quote currency, the pip value is converted from the quote currency into your account currency at the current rate.

Gold and silver are quoted per ounce. One lot of XAUUSD is usually 100 oz, so a $1 move in gold is worth $100 per lot. One lot of XAGUSD is usually 5,000 oz. Oil (USOIL, UKOIL) is usually 1,000 barrels per lot, so a $0.01 move is worth $10.

Stock indices such as US30, NAS100 and GER40 are usually 1 unit of the index per lot, so a 1-point move is worth 1 unit of the quote currency per lot. Crypto CFDs such as BTCUSD are usually 1 coin per lot.

CFD contract sizes differ between brokers. If yours is different, check your broker's contract specification and edit the contract size in the calculator before you rely on the result.
