The lira has a long history of high inflation and large depreciation, so the pair is driven by Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye policy, inflation data, fiscal and political news and global dollar strength. Liquidity is concentrated in the European morning, when Istanbul is open, and can be very thin at other times, with wide spreads and occasional gaps. For calculations, one pip is 0.0001 and a standard lot is 100,000 dollars, so a pip is TRY 10. Because one dollar buys many lira, that pip is worth only a fraction of a dollar, and swap costs for holding positions overnight can be large due to the interest-rate gap.
